We live in a world that is more environmentally conscious than ever before. For many of us, sustainable living isn’t a trend: it’s how we live our life, day to day.

Although our furniture designs take inspiration from mid-century modernism, we’re also committed to modern sustainability. We appreciate that our customers in London want unique beautiful furniture that also aligns with their values.

Design Full of Inspiration & Purpose

At Tamart, it’s our mission to create refined, functional furniture that blends exceptional design with environmental integrity. Founded by award-winning architect Amos Goldreich, pieces are designed to honour the work and love story of his late parents, the modernist architects and polymaths, Tamar de Shalit and Arthur Goldreich.

However, they are also designed to contribute towards a more sustainable future. From the materials chosen to the way each product is constructed, Tamart operates with the belief that true luxury should never come at the cost of the planet.

Sustainably Sourced Materials

Our commitment to responsible design begins with our materials. All timber used in our products is FSC certified, ensuring it comes from sustainably managed forests. Our choice of timber includes natural oak, natural ash, and black-stained ash. All are not only captivating but durable, providing your property with that timeless appeal.

Support British and European Manufacturers

Each item is crafted in the UK or Europe, supporting local economies and reducing transportation emissions.

Our upholstered pieces, including our elegant Clore Lounge Chair and Ottoman and Red Rock Club Chair, are available in high-quality wool textiles from Mourne Textiles and Bute Fabrics. These are two leading textile producers, known for their dedication to sustainable practices. Their fabrics are produced in Northern Ireland and Scotland respectively.

Our Exclusive Collaboration with Bute Fabrics

In a unique partnership with Bute Fabrics, Tamart has developed a bespoke fabric named Contrast. Inspired by an original textile design by Tamar de Shalit, this black and white weave is exclusive to us and showcases the brand’s dedication to both design heritage and innovation.

As with all our textiles, Contrast is manufactured in Britain under environmentally conscious conditions.

Natural Upholstery Designed to be Sustainable

Our furniture is not only luxurious and beautiful. Every component of our upholstery is designed with sustainability in mind.

From jute webbing and natural latex cores to wool felt wadding and Haircolok filling (a blend of natural latex, animal hair, and coir), the materials used are renewable, biodegradable, and fire-retardant without resorting to harmful chemicals. Even the staples used are chosen for durability and recyclability, ensuring that each piece can be reupholstered or repaired with ease.

Eco-Conscious Use of Leather

If you prefer leather finishes, Tamart offers natural vegetable-tanned leathers in chestnut, black, and natural colours. These are sourced from Italy: a country known for its high standards in traditional leather tanning. Here they often environmentally friendly processes that avoid harsh chemicals. Leathers are selected not just for their beauty but for their longevity and minimal impact on the environment.

Luxury Furniture Built to Last

Tamart designs with longevity in mind. Our furniture is a life-time investment, with strong frames and components that can be easily disassembled or repaired. The Highgate Chair, for instance, features a unique mounting and tightening system that allows for simple maintenance and use for years to come.

Eco-Friendly Packaging and Deliveries

Even the packaging reflects Tamart’s sustainable values. Products are shipped using fully recyclable materials, including cardboard edge protectors and paper-based cushioning. These packaging choices not only minimise environmental impact but also protect each piece from the fluctuations in temperature and humidity that can affect solid wood during transit.

Deliveries are handled by a local logistics company using electric vans that meet stringent Euro 6 emissions standards, ensuring that every stage of our supply chain meets high sustainability benchmarks.

Certified Sustainability

Our production partners are certified under FSC 100% and PEFC 100%. That guarantees that our timber is sourced from responsibly managed forests. Wood by-products from the manufacturing process are converted into biofuel pellets to heat production facilities, demonstrating a closed-loop approach to the use of materials.

Our Causes

Just like Tamar de Shalit and Arthur Goldreich, we want to help create a better world.

Tamart is a proud signatory of Design Declares, a global collective committed to using design as a force for environmental and social change. This reflects our brand’s broader ethos: sustainability is not just about materials, but about relationships, with people, communities, and the planet.

We actively support charitable initiatives and build strong relationships with clients, employees, and suppliers. By embedding social responsibility into our business model, Tamart ensures that its impact is positive on every level.

Tamart loves showing that sustainability doesn’t mean compromising on quality or style. By blending traditional craftsmanship with modern environmental practices, we create furniture that’s as conscientious as it is beautiful.
